Why doesn't Britain allow one to carry br knuckles around, how are you supposed to defend yourself?

In France, we are allowed to do this (from the age of 16) and violent crimes on the streets are much fewer in number (particularly in the North, the South is a bit of a hell hole). Pardon my English.
