Imperial powers in the 19th century?

I had this question on my midterm, but I had no idea: Although multiple European countries participated in overseas exploration and expansion after 1492, it was primarily Spain, France and Britain that ended up the main imperial and commercial powers by 1800. How did this Atlantic system impact Europe politically, economically, and ideologically?
