What are some good fast cars that are affordable?

So I'm saving up for a car and I want to see if there are some cars that a lot of people don't no about like my brother has a ford probe, never heard of it but it has a v6 and a lot of potential and then he finds a car called a 300zx nd that car is very beasty so I'm wondering if there are any other cars out there that are fast and have a lot of potential but affordable around 1,000 to 6,000 dollars and please no hondas or acuras dont like them cuz they're weak, nd because I'm going to install turbo, ecu, nd some other performance parts so it has to be able to some abuse oh and preferably a stick shift thanks.
